I was reading the New Testament today and I got caught up on the story of the rich young ruler (Luke 18: 18-27) where Jesus states "it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of god!" This was frustrating to me so I researched it further and learned that Jesus used powerful symbolism referring to passing through the "eye of a needle". The eye of a needle is symbolism for the small entrance way into a city, back in the day... I kept researching and found out that for a camel to pass through one of these small entries (the eye of a needle) they would have to strip everything off the camel and the camel would have to get on its knees and crawl through. When I read this it hit me like a brick... In order for a rich man to get into heaven he has to completely strip him self of all worldly things and get on his knees in humility.
The world today is very superficial and majority of peoples energy is focused on material things that are very temporary and worthless in the eyes of God... It's hard for me to always stay focused on things of eternal worth but this scripture really rang true for me and I learned that riches are only bad if you allow them to run your life. I am giving my life some thought and I am going to refocus myself on the things that really matter... Life is short and at the end of the day money doesn't mean a thing.
